It’s not often I come across new events I’ve never seen before and I’ve never been part of a boxing event (though I did pay £15 to watch Frank Bruno get battered by Mike Tyson on Sky Sports once), so was really looking forward to it.
It was being organised by Blacon Boxing Club (the other BBC), as a fundraiser for the club. They asked me to perform close up magic for guests before the boxing and between courses of the meal to help break the ice and get the guests laughing before the fighting started.
I know I’m biased, but magic really is the perfect type of entertainment for this kind of event. It can work as an ice breaker to help get everyone in a light hearted mood. It helps take the pressure off you, to make sure that everyone is smiling and having a good time.
